![]() ![]() A Little Light Mischief, is a novella in the Turner series, but as a newcomer, I didn't have any problem starting here. ![]() Alice was overwhelmed by this sudden sense of common feeling with a woman whose life had been so different from her own, but who had wound up in roughly the same place. ![]() The new companion in the house, however, has her wanting to live life in a different reckless way. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Alice was disowned by her family for something that wasn't her fault but her new situation has her with idle hands for the first time in her life and eyes that can't help but follow the maid.Molly was used to doing whatever it took to survive, thievery and cheating, but she finally has a stable working situation and is determined to not lose it. I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. ![]()

![]() ![]() The striped cat peers out from an "O" with an intense gaze, daring you to leave it alone. "O" is for Ocicat, a new breed that forms an exclusive bond with a person and suffers from loneliness. Illustrated by Gabriella Gallerani (who, oddly enough, lives with a parrot and a Yorkie) and written by Paola Gallerani (who does have a cat named Quazzo), it's an A to Z compilation of cat breeds, and Gabriella Gallerani, a scientific illustrator, has captured the essence of felinity with meticulous detail and wit. (Although most of our editors are cat people.) So it's a pleasure to come across a lovely cat book, and there might be none lovelier than Alpha Cat, a hardcover published by Officina Libraria, distributed by ACC ($24.95). Because a person can’t be tried twice for the same crime in England, Alfred-who did, indeed, poison Emily-would ensure his own freedom if he got himself arrested right away on feeble evidence. ![]() He then pieces together that Alfred wants to be arrested before there’s much evidence against him, knowing the case would be too weak to convict him. But Poirot senses something strange about his behavior, realizing that Alfred is trying to look guilty. Right away, everyone suspects that he’s the murderer, and it’s true that he doesn’t have a very good alibi at the inquest (the initial court hearing). John Cavendish tells Hastings that Alfred is clearly “fortune hunting” by marrying Emily-that is, marrying a wealthy older woman and waiting for her to die so he can take her money for himself. More importantly, the other people living at Styles Court are all suspicious of him, finding it unlikely that he-as a younger man-actually loves Emily. With a black beard and a distinctive way of dressing, Alfred stands out in the small country town of Styles. Alfred Inglethorp is Emily Inglethorp’s new husband, whom she marries about three months before the primary action of the novel takes place. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() "With its free-spirited heroine and honorable hero, Dare's latest is a riotous romance.
